I ordered 2 of these locks; 1 for my patio door, and 1 later on to convert a Eufy smart lock to a kwikset keyway. This cylinder worked for both of my use cases perfectly. Note: When installing in a patio door, make sure the tailpiece is turned the correct way to avoid bending the tailpiece when trying to unlatch the door; as you install it, lightly see if the indoor lock is able to be turned, if you feel any resistance, take the lock out, turn the tailpiece the other way, and re-install. Also, I ended up having to use a dremel to remove some of the tailpiece as the provided cut points weren’t at the length I needed for my application.

This will work but it didn’t come with the keyway shown it was a wiser instead of a Kwikset.

I needed to replace the key cylinder on a vinyl sliding glass door out to the deck. It’s not sold in any home improvement stores near me, so I just chose a model here on Amazon, hoping it was the right one. It certainly looked like it in the picture. To my surprise, it came the very next day! Awesome. First off, it does not look like the one in the picture. The key is a different shape and the breakaway increments are bigger and farther apart than both in the picture and my original one. The key shape isn’t a problem, so long as it works. It’s a good thing I bought 2, though (have 2 doors that need cylinder replacement), because in trying to break the tailpiece into a half increment, I broke it too far and it wouldn’t fit. Not to mention the washer holding the tailpiece in is extremely flimsy and cheap. Pulled out the rotary tool with metal disc cutter for the second time. Should have used that to begin with. We shall have to see how long the unit lasts into the future…I rarely use the locks on these doors.Pros: Fits in a vinyl patio door handle for sliding glass door.Cons: Minor differences from the listing picture, breakaway increments on tailpiece too wide, washer holding in tailpiece very flimsy

I took a chance after reading all the bad reviews and sure enough. I FAFO. At first it seems pretty nice but once installed, I could lock it but i cant pull the key out unless I partially unlock and even though it’s slightly latched, I pulled hard a few times and the door straight opened. Tried to remove the cylinder to see of I can adjust anything and it got stuck and I had to use a hammer and a small bolt to get it out and as you can see the friggin tail bent. Don’t Be like me and take a risk. Luckily it was only $10 and some change.

Iām conflicted because while the lock works out of the box as a door lock (most of you are probably buying it for a patio door) with no issues when using the provided key, the whole purpose of the manufacturer posting āKwiksetā in the title sets the expectation that it would work with Kwikset keys and thus conform to Kwikset specifications in addition to Weiser and Weslock which are also listed. As another reviewer mentioned, if you are planning to rekey this lock with Kwikset pins, I can confirm that Kwikset specification pins do bind the core. As I am not a professional locksmith, Iām not going to buy a variety set of pins so that I can have the necessary pin lengths to work with this off spec lock. As I needed to rekey this lock for a project of mine, I went ahead and filed down Kwikset pins and am now able to utilize the an original Kwikset key. For any homeowner wanting to use this lock with a Kwikset key, donāt waste your time trying to rekey this yourself, just buy the lock and pay a locksmith the few bucks to rekey it to whatever key you want.

For a long time I searched on how to add a lock to several sliding glass doors we had added to the house. There aren’t a lot of details on which locks fit which doors but I was convinced by other reviews this would fit the Pela doors we added. The instructions were clear and they installed easily. Once I had the plug out it was about 5 -7 minutes before I was throwing away the packing and testing the keys.The only real thing to be concerned about, except for shape of course, is the depth of the metal part that runs the lock. The are scores along the metal piece that make adjustments easy. I didn’t need to remove any sections for my door but its nice to know if your lock is more recessed you can make this shorted with a pair of pliers and a couple bends back and forth.

I do not recommend these locks. The three identical item number units I purchased via Amazon were all three slightly different in physical construction. All three had issues with installation and only because I have some “handy” skills did I ultimately succeed to modify one of the out of spec units to function until I can get an in-spec version to replace it.My circa 2004 slider door’s lock was damaged. I needed a replacement so looked at my local Lowe’s and Home Depot, etc. but didn’t find the right size. I get it, it’s a pandemic and supply chain STUFF… enter my effort to buy the IDENTICAL lock that these brick and mortar stores usually carry. This lock brand and number is identical to what I got here at Amazon. This is not a hit on the stores or Amazon… it is a quality control issue with the manufacturer.I’ve replaced slider locks before so not my first rodeo. Mass produced locks like this are not exacting so often require a little finesse but this was ridiculous. Ultimately, I had to use my Dremel to modify the off spec face plate of the unit that managed not to break in one show stopping way or another.—————————–The FIRST lock – The face fit the hole of the handle (as it should given the part number and measurements) allowing key to turn before snipping and fine grinding the tail. After install, the tail twisted and bent at the first effort to use the key lock side. Note, no resistance to indicate issue until the key wouldn’t turn back. I had noticed the tail was a softer metal than others I’ve done when I shortened the tail but come on, twisting like that on first use is ridiculous. Can’t return because the tail is clipped so useless lock to scrap metal pile now.——————————SECOND unit – Same part number and packaging with similar but slight differences that would not change the function (enter mass production concept here). This lock would not sit flush in the handle hole upon installation even though it did initially. It would sit flush until you tried to turn the key. It would push in on one side even with careful center pressure with the key. It would stay that way. After it was partially pushed in not only would the key not turn but the face plate was now wedged which prevented it from turning and the slide lock on the inside no longer moved properly. Multiple reinstalls and efforts later, only the same result. Can’t return because the tail is clipped so useless lock to scrap metal pile now.—————————————–THIRD unit – Same part number and packaging while visibly different lock in some ways from the first two. BUT, it appeared to have the same overall footprint so insert concept of “mass produced so different in different runs” rational here again. Note all three locks had different types of keys in spite of being the same part number. Just an observation to note since another part number uses “Sclage” style keys.NOW, the circumference of the face plate of the lock (the chromed key face) was just enough off spec this time to prevent the lock from turning with the key even when it fit in the handle flush and turned initially. Without any resistance from the locking mechanism, the key turned fine. However, once the full unit was installed, the key would not turn. The face plate was slightly too large a diameter so with any pressure as it is designed to have, it jams into the hole preventing it from turning.Insert many four letter words….I got my Dremel tool with the fine sanding wheel and carefully ground off evenly around the face plate exposing the brass under the chromed surface along the lip (leaving the chromed surface on the face). I cleaned it up and reinstalled then uninstalled and repeated this process until I got the face plate to turn with the key (took roughly 8-10 efforts). Honestly, I lost count since I had installed, uninstalled and reinstalled so many times all three locks…I am hoping eventually, the manufacturing process goes back to the standard level of “mass production level quality” for future projects because this was a two day, on-and-off project that should have been less than 30 minutes not requiring power tools.

I used this to change my schlage style key to kwikset style key. My door was a Pella I think “Architecture” model sliding door. I was able to re-key this lock to match my other doors. If you’ve re-keyed a few locks you can do it no problem. The lock is not made by kwikset, so you will not be able (at least i wasn’t) to used the same pin numbers as your kwikset locks. You will have to try different pins (one pin at a time) till you find the right lengths for your key. Standard kwikset pins worked, I didn’t have to file any pins down to make a custom pin length which was nice. The whole process was maybe 30 minutes. I didn’t separate the cylinder from the housing and it would have gone faster finding correct length pins had I done this and if a custom pin length was needed this would probably make the job easier. I guess I sort of see why some complain of the quality but I don’t see much difference from any other lock sold today. It feels somewhat “flexy” when turning but not sure if the original was any better because I never had a key for it. The mechanism is pretty stiff so I am not certain another lock would feel any different. If I was planning to use this lock everyday I wonder if it would last, a lock direct from Pella MIGHT be better quality- but not worth it to me.
